29 October 2025 Press Release

4 New Events to Inspire and Move Audiences This Season

Four exceptional performances are joining Le Diamant’s 2025–2026 season. In February, contemporary dance choreographer and performer Cherish Menzo presents a creation with a striking and unsettling aesthetic, followed by Compagnie Tchaïka, which explores through puppetry the imagination of a child confronted with war. In March, during spring break, DynamO Théâtre offers a brand-new, out-of-the-ordinary family production. Finally, in April, Mani Soleymanlou delivers a powerful performance in Le vieux monde derrière nous, based on Olivier Kemeid’s novel, produced by UBU compagnie de création and first premiered at the Centre du Théâtre d’Aujourd’hui in November.

A Must-See in Contemporary Dance

DARKMATTER
Feb. 5 — 6, 2026

Choreographer Cherish Menzo has been electrifying international stages with her bold and distinctive style. Winner of numerous awards in Europe, she presents DARKMATTER, a duet with Camilo Mejía Cortés exploring the perception of black bodies. Poetry, strangeness, and both sonic and choreographic distortions intertwine in a remix of hip-hop tempos and rap anthems. Cherish Menzo stands as one of the most compelling voices in contemporary dance today.

War Seen Through a Child’s Eyes

Une traversée
Feb. 26— 28, 2026

In these turbulent times marked by international conflict, Compagnie Tchaïka draws inspiration from Lewis Carroll’s masterpiece Through the Looking-Glass to reveal the power of imagination in the face of war’s absurdity. Une Traversée immerses audiences in the inner world of a child whose home has been destroyed, using puppets and repurposed objects to craft a poetic fable where imagination becomes an act of survival. Having appeared on major European and South American stages, Compagnie Tchaïka confirms its place among the leading creators in contemporary puppet theatre.

Physical Theatre and Acrobatics for Spring Break

En théories (une poétique de l’espace-temps)
March 5 — 7, 2026

With En théories (une poétique de l’espace-temps), DynamO Théâtre presents an extraordinary new creation for young audiences featuring twelve performers and forty-four chairs on stage. Blending acrobatics, poetic movement, and metaphor, this daring work— inspired by classical and quantum physics—explores the universe, time, and identity. The performers and their chairs embody both physical and human phenomena, blurring the boundaries between reality and imagined dimensions. For over 40 years, DynamO Théâtre has been reinventing young audience theatre with passion, creating works that move both body and mind and inspire wonder in all ages.

An Adaptation of Olivier Kemeid’s Novel

Le vieux monde derrière nous
Apr. 16 — 18, 2026

With Le vieux monde derrière nous, UBU compagnie de création offers a moving odyssey carried by Mani Soleymanlou. Adapted from Olivier Kemeid’s novel and directed by Denis Marleau, this solo piece intertwines memory, travel, and lineage. It follows the story of a 22-year-old Montrealer who, in 1968, sets off for the Middle East on a Vespa, leaving behind his love letters. Fifty years later, his son revisits this correspondence to reinvent their family mythology. Between memory and fiction, Mani Soleymanlou embodies this intimate journey with great intensity, as past and present converse in a time charged with hope.
