Une Traversée

In a room, a young child plays with a kitten. Asleep, she observes the world from the other side of the mirror, and launches into a game of survival, where compromise, despair and empowerment make you grow.

A game to not sink, but to stay strong, to assert yourself, to keep your name and your personality firmly in mind. A game in which you must participate, even as a Pawn on the big chessboard, even if it would have been better to be Queen.

Through the eyes of a child, Une Traversée explores the mysteries and mechanisms of consciousness and imagination that activate to face the absurdity of our world on the verge of collapse, torn apart by the madness of war.

Inspired by the masterpiece work by Lewis Caroll, which follows the famous Alice in Wonderland, Natacha Belova and Tita Iacobelli, with the help of puppets and the misappropriation of objects, engulf the public in this world now orphaned by all rationality where the absurd logic of a child’s fantasy suddenly becomes salutary, an indispensable weapon against the manipulation of words and the domination of harmful ideas.

ABOUT – COMPAGNIE TCHAÏKA

Founded by Chilean actress and director Tita Iacobelli and Belgian-Russian puppeteer Natacha Belova, the company has established itself as a reference in contemporary puppetry theatre. Born from an experimental laboratory in Santiago in 2015, it officially came to life with the creation of Tchaïka in 2018.

Since then, its productions have been presented on major stages across Europe and South America. Tchaïka was awarded the Maeterlinck Critics’ Prize (Belgium) in the “Best Solo Performance” category in 2020 and received the Grand Prize at the Bielsko-Biala International Festival (Poland) in 2022, two distinctions that confirm the international reach of its work.

The company continued its momentum with LOCO (2021), presented at the Théâtre National Wallonie-Bruxelles, followed by Sisypholia (2022), created as part of the International Biennale of Performing Arts in Toulouse. Its next creation, Une Traversée, will premiere in fall 2025 at Théâtre de la Cité de Toulouse at Festival Marionnettissimo.

Driven by a demanding and innovative artistic approach, Compagnie Tchaïka has become one of the singular voices of the contemporary puppet theatre.
