Description

Paradisum explores the myth of rebirth following the silence of a destroyed world, where the means of communication is the body, and the only common language is movement. The creatures of this idyllic existence unfold from the ever-changing, swirling natural forces of the ‘fabric of life’ pulsating around them to reach the anima mundi, the world soul, through scenes of purification, birth, awakening and ritual.

Directed and choreographed by Bence Vági, the performance explores the new possibilities of cirque danse, a genre that combines modern dance and circus arts, in search of an ethereal language of movement expressing the concerns of humanity. The conflicts of the myth of the reborn human are also expressed through the original music of the performance. Composed by Edina Szirtes, the multifaceted soundscape features life-overwhelming and life-creating roars emerging from the mythical chaos, while the unconscious pulsations of human memory reveal the prayers of vanished cultures.

*Please be advised that strobe lights are used during this performance.

Reviews

★★★★★ « Highly recommended for anyone seeking a show that is both visually stunning and emotionally striking. »

The West End Best Friend

★★★★☆ «An astonishing display of strength and artistry.»

Broadway Baby

★★★★☆ «There’s illusion with simplicity as a textured stage cloth rises, falls and drapes, becoming volcano, sea, landscape, mythical creature, even dinosaur. »

The List

« The final crescendo, as paradise is revealed, is theatrical perfection. [...] The spectacle is so otherworldly that it’s only when the six artists take their curtain call… that you remember they’re mortal. »

The Wee Review

« Each performer has their moment to shine, and all are masters of their craft. This is an extraordinary and beautiful piece of work from a company pushing the limits of the human body as much as they blur the boundaries between performance styles. »
