Description

Cinplass is a spontaneous theatre collective that pushes the boundaries of improvisation. It’s impossible to summarize a Cinplass show because nothing is written in advance—everything is created in the moment. Each performance becomes a free territory where a single grand story may emerge, or multiple narratives may intersect, blend, or respond to one another. The themes are varied—sometimes disturbing, absurd, hilarious, or poignant—but always sincere and driven by the energy of the moment.

Since 1999, Cinplass has explored improvisation as an art form in its own right, distinct from competitive play. Inspired by the freedom instilled by Robert Gravel but freed from any kind of framework, the collective relies on a single rule: say yes. Yes to others’ ideas, yes to accidents, yes to the shared construction of a living and unpredictable theatre. This approach makes the group a laboratory of raw emotions where risk becomes the engine of creation.

With over a century of combined experience, Cinplass has won over audiences both locally and abroad—from Montreal to France and Belgium. Its credo has remained unchanged since the beginning: the only way to fly is to accept the fall. It is in this fragile balance between control and surrender that their spontaneous theatre is born—at once pathetic, burlesque, and profoundly human.
